Tour Description

Sydfyn (South of Funen) is a very popular summer destination for active travellers with room for everybody. Whether you are into cycling to lovely beaches, to breath taking hills with stunning views, or to charming villages with cosy cafés, the south of Funen is something for you. Sailing is an important part of your holiday in the south of Funen. The ferry ride to Ærø gives you intriguing glimpses of small islands inhabitated by few people – some of them only grazing cattle. Ærø itself is a highlight – fertile landscapes with small farms between the rolling hills and small, old maritime towns.

Everyday you can choose between different routes to match your specific desires and needs. The tour is offered with 2 options for accommodation:

City: Hotels in the centre of Svendborg and Faaborg for those who want to enjoy the city atmosphere.

Beach: Hotels on the beach just outside (2-3 km) Svendborg and Faaborg for those who prefer the proximity to nature and a sandy beach.

Option: A stay in Odense, the city of Hans Christian Andersen´s fairytales.

Highlights
  • Svendborg, the old seaside town – squeezed in between sea and hills. Home port for many beautiful wooden ships
  • The south Funen Archipelago, a paradise for cyclists – as well as yachtsmen and hikers
  • Valdemar Castle and Egeskov Castle
  • Ærø – a unique island community with ”easy living”
  • Ferry trips and lovely beaches
Daily Programme

Day 1

Arrival to Svendborg.

Svendborg is a vibrant and exciting town with a historical centre. Shops and restaurants offer tasty, healthy and locally grown food, which has become a brand for Sydfyn: “The Taste of Funen” – “Smagen af Fyn”. You can explore the traditional wooden shipyard or visit the modern museum of natural history. All our hotels are situated with easy access to cycle friendly roads. If you have rented bikes, they will be at the hotel on the afternoon on your arrival.

Overnight stay in Svendborg.

Day 2 + 3

A few options:

  • Across the bridge from Svendborg to the island Thurø (important maritime centre, and charming village).
  • Take the vintage ship “Helge” from Thurø to Valdemar Castle on Tåsixnge and cycle back to Svendborg across the bridge “Svendborgsundbroen”.
  • Follow in the glacier’s footsteps: Lakes, valleys and lovely hills.

Day 4

Svendborg to Faaborg. 34 km.

Cycle down the idyllic route along the coast line to Faaborg. Remember to shop for a picnic and settle down at one of the picnic areas on the way. If you want to extend the day´s stage, we suggest you cycle through the south Funen hills, passing meltwater lakes and fertile fields with cud-chewing cattle before heading back to Faaborg along the coast.

Overnight stay in Faaborg.

Dag 5

Roundtrip from Faaborg. 15-40 km.

Enjoy a day in Svanninge Bakker (the Funen “Alps”). One of the most exciting nature areas on Funen created during the Ice Age. Cycle on to Falsled, where you can find one of the best restaurants in Denmark, and carry on back to Faaborg. A more relaxed trip can be made to the beaches on the peninsula Horneland to the west of Faaborg.

Overnight stay in Faaborg.

Day 6

Via Ærø to Svendborg. 20-45 km.

Take the morning ferry (included) to Søby. Visit the manor Søbygaard with its interesting art exibitions and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee at a small cycle Café on your way south from Søby.

On Ærø you will find yourself in a 19th century atmosphere with narrow cobblestone lanes, half-timbered houses with hollyhocks – and lots of time. Everywhere you cycle you will find farm shops where you can buy fruit, vegetables and honey. Ærø has its own brewery and is known for their production of ice cream and chocolate. You are never far away from the beach or a bench and each of the three main towns have its own charm. In the evening you go by the ferry from Ærøskøbing, the smallest and most lovely market town in Denmark and back to Svendborg. If you take the late ferry, you can enjoy your dinner at one of the many good restaurants in Ærøskøbing, before returning to Svendborg in the light Danish summer night.

Overnight stay in Svendborg.

Day 7
